Tip Out Calc FAQ
Quick answers about tip-outs and how this calculator works.
What is a tip-out?
A tip-out is the share of tips a server or bartender gives to support staff — like bar, bussers, hosts, or runners — based on house rules. It is different from the tip percentage a guest leaves on a bill.
How much should I tip out?
It depends on your restaurant. Common patterns are a percent of total tips, a percent of food or liquor sales, or fixed dollar amounts per role. Always follow your workplace policy; this calculator only does the math you enter.
Tip-out vs tip pool — what’s the difference?
With a tip-out, you usually keep most of your tips and pay support staff a set share. In a tip pool, tips from several people are combined and split by a formula (often by hours or role). This tool is built for tip-outs; a pool splitter can come later.
Is this payroll or legal advice?
No. Tip Out Calc is a free estimate helper. Tip and wage rules vary by place. Confirm amounts with your manager or pay system before you rely on them.
Do you save the numbers I enter?
No. The math runs in your browser. We don’t ask you to log in. We may store your dark/light theme choice on your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.
